Spearfishing
I grew up as a teenager in a spearfishing heaven which was a little Carriibean Island called Puerto Rico. This was in the mid to late 1970′s so it was pretty pristine back then and there was no lack of fish or lobster. I owned two spearguns - a short one for lobster and a long one for grouper. Most of the grouper we shot were Nassau grouper with the occasional black grouper. We saw jewfish here and there but they were usually way too big to even consider - i’m talking several hundred pounds. Occasionally, we get a hogfish and there were more snapper than you could imagine. We never shot parrot fish. I shot a stingray once and we cooked on on the beach on a grill. It was really quite good. I loved spearfishing. I don’t get to do it as much as I did even though I live in Florida within a 2-hour drive to the Keys and when I go bonefishing in the Bahamas I always have my guide take me to a patch reef to shoot some snapper and grouper. The photo above is a spearfisherman with an impressive Hogfish.
